If you’re struggling to get apps to display correctly on your foldable, follow these steps. By Erin Carson, Oct. 18, 2026, 12:15 pm EST
The larger display that comes with a foldable phone is undeniably appealing. Whether you’re gaming, streaming video, or reading, the extra space can enhance the experience. At the same time, the shifting aspect ratio of a foldable can cause apps to behave oddly when the device moves between its folded and unfolded states.
Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 8 at its Unpacked event in July. The phone’s App Continuity feature lets you move between the outer and inner screens without losing your place. However, some users have reported that certain apps do not scale properly on the inner 4:3 display, prompting discussions on forums about possible solutions.
Here’s how to address scaling and app‑size problems on the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
**Adjust an app’s aspect ratio**
Many apps are built to handle a range of screen sizes, but they may not automatically adapt to the Fold 8’s inner panel. SamMobile notes that you can change an app’s aspect ratio individually. To do this, unfold the device and open Settings → Display → Aspect ratio. Depending on your One UI version, you might also find the option under Settings → Apps. On the aspect‑ratio screen, select the app you want to modify and choose between full screen, 4:3, or 16:9. The note on that page explains that apps running in the background may need to be restarted for the change to take effect. The chosen setting becomes the default whenever you open that app.
**Alternative method**
You can also set the aspect ratio from the home screen. Press and hold the app’s icon, then tap the small information button in the top‑right corner. Choose “App aspect ratios” and pick the desired setting. Even after you set a preferred ratio, some apps may still appear misaligned or cropped if they were not optimized for the Fold 8’s screen.
Engadget’s review of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 highlighted the main screen’s 4:3 ratio, noting that it reduces the letterboxing seen with widescreen content compared with the more square inner displays of earlier Fold models. While the new screen offers a better viewing experience, you may still encounter occasional app glitches that require the adjustments described above.
