EA shuts down BioWare after more than three decades of iconic RPGs

The studio famed for franchises such as Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Neverwinter Nights and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic has been closed. BioWare posted on social media Wednesday afternoon that “after more than three decades of shared adventures, BioWare is closing and early development on the next Mass Effect project is ending.”

The announcement arrived minutes after Bloomberg reported that Electronic Arts, BioWare’s parent company, was cutting 400 jobs across its divisions, including 50 positions at BioWare, according to a source familiar with the plans.

In an internal memo shared with Bloomberg, EA executives said they are “making deliberate choices to align talent and investments where we see the greatest opportunities for players and long‑term growth.”
