Coolpad’s $150 Android phone offers a wider display similar to the iPhone Duo, without a folding design

Coolpad is borrowing the ultra‑wide look of recent foldable devices for its latest slab phone. The new Cool X Wide follows the trend set by models such as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8, Huawei’s Pura X View and Apple’s iPhone Duo, which have all pushed the boundaries of screen width. Like the Huawei Pura X View that debuted in China in August, the Cool X Wide features a display that is noticeably broader than the average non‑folding smartphone, giving it a footprint that rivals a small tablet or the closed‑state size of the iPhone Duo and Galaxy Z Fold 8.

Coolpad’s approach sidesteps the high cost, expensive repair bills and the crease that comes with folding screens, aiming instead for a more affordable experience. The device is priced at 999 yuan and can be pre‑ordered through JD.com in China. For the full story, see The Verge.
