1Password has rolled out a new capability called 1Password for Agents, designed to let artificial‑intelligence agents access user accounts without ever exposing the actual passwords. While the feature does not grant bots unrestricted entry to every linked service, users will still need to approve each sign‑in request, adding a layer of control. The change aims to simplify workflows that require agents to log into multiple platforms.
“Agents are starting to do real work on our behalf. The old model where you hand over a credential and hope for the best doesn’t work,” said Aashish Tripathi, CEO of 1Password, in a press release. “An agent should be able to do the job …”
The new system is intended to reduce the friction of using AI tools for tasks that involve authentication, while maintaining security by keeping the actual passwords out of the agents’ reach. For more details, see the full story at The Verge.
